Origin Kyoto

The Kyoto program is housed in the grounds of the Sujiyacho machiya (old Kyoto house) of Iori Co, utilizing tea rooms, calligraphy space, and gardens of the machiya, and a multi-purpose Arts Practice Hall (Dojo), with wooden floors suitable for martial arts and a full practice Noh stage.  The Arts Practice Hall, completed in March 2005, is the only one of its type in Kyoto.

Programs provide experience of four core classic Japanese arts:
Noh drama dance (Shimai), Martial arts (Budo), Flower Arranging, Calligraphy, and Tea Ceremony, as well as introductions to ceramics, textiles, and other arts.

We offer a range of programs (see
Types of Programs), from an afternoon or morning's course, to several days or a week — each program is tailored to the need of the visitors. The larger-scale programs include visits to important historic sites (some not usually open to the public), as well as classic traditional dinners and other events, incorporating all the arts that the students have studied (see Options).

For more information on the background and approach of Origin, please see
